Builders in Colinton
Builders in Colinton, the south-west village of Bridge Road, Woodhall and Bonaly, above Colinton Dell and south of Lanark Road.
Neighbourhoods
Colinton is a village in the south-west, in the Water of Leith valley under the Pentland Hills. Bridge Road is the centre. Woodhall and Bonaly are the housing on the hill. Dreghorn sits toward the bypass. Colinton Dell is the wooded gorge: a walking route, not a road. Lanark Road, the A70, passes along the north side of the suburb on its way toward Juniper Green.
Building stock
The village still has stone cottages and older houses packed along Bridge Road. Victorian villas stand on the slopes. Twentieth-century family houses cover the hill toward Bonaly, many with a garage or a drive cut into the slope. That mix — a tight village street plus hillside houses — is the local pattern, distinct from both the Grange’s villa grid and Corstorphine’s bungalow streets.
Access and parking
Bridge Road has little spare kerb. Woodhall Road and Bonaly Road climb, and a loaded van feels the gradient. The Dell paths cannot take a vehicle, so a house that fronts a path still has to be served from the nearest adopted road. Lanark Road is faster and less useful for stopping. Several drives are steep and single width.
Travel from our office
Colinton is south-west of Gilmerton. From 102 Gilmerton Dykes Crescent, take the A720 to the Dreghorn junction and use the local roads into the village. Lanark Road is the alternative if you are already on the west side of the city, then south on Bridge Road.
