Builders in Dalkeith

Builders in Dalkeith, the Midlothian town on the A772 south-east of Gilmerton, including the High Street, Eskbank and Thornybank.

Neighbourhoods

Dalkeith is the Midlothian town south-east of Edinburgh. The High Street is the centre. Dalkeith Country Park and the palace grounds lie on the north-east edge, where the North Esk and South Esk meet. Eskbank is the approach from Edinburgh, with the station. Thornybank and Woodburn are housing areas off the centre. It is a market town in its own right, closer to Gilmerton than Penicuik is.

Building stock

The High Street is stone and attached, with older houses on the wynds behind it. Eskbank has Victorian and later villas along the road from Edinburgh. The edges of town are housing estates. That is a different mix from the Grange, which is almost entirely large villas, and from Leith’s docks. A Dalkeith job is as likely to be an estate house or a high-street building as a villa on Eskbank Road.

Access and parking

The High Street is the bus street and has waiting limits. Car parks behind the street serve the centre. Estate roads are wider, and many of those houses have a drive. Eskbank Road is the arrival from Edinburgh and carries through traffic. The country park gates are not a shortcut to a domestic address.

Travel from our office

Dalkeith is the page closest to the office. The A772 leaves Gilmerton, where 102 Gilmerton Dykes Crescent stands, and runs south-east through to Eskbank and the town. It is a different road from the A701 used for Penicuik, and it does not require a trip around the north of Edinburgh.
